Study Abroad
Studying abroad is one of the greatest experiences you'll have
in college. After you graduate, you'll be working and have increased
resposibilities. It will be a lot harder to take four months off,
living in another country; it is also cheaper to do it while you
are still in school.
If you don't plan early, the opportunity can easily pass you by.
Students usually apply for study abroad programs about a year to
a year and a half in advance. Popular programs fill up fast.
Here are some suggested steps from students to help you plan your
study abroad experience:
1. Talk to other students, friends, and relatives about places they
have been and programs they have gone on to get an idea of where
you would like to go.
2. Most schools have study abroad offices. There you can get program
details, deadlines, necessary paperwork, and advice on a program
that would work for you.
3. Once you find a program you like, look at the courses that will
be available and plan your upcoming course schedules to accommodate
and ensure that you will graduate on time.
4. Do your homework: Talk to students who have already been on the
program. Look online at forums, figure out what you should bring,
what to do.
5. Make sure your passport is not expired! Also, be sure it won't
expire until well after your trip. You should also make a copy of
it and keep it in a different place than your passport in case you
lose it.
