Dorm Food
Soft serve ice cream at every meal!!!
The quality of dorm food varies significantly from school to school.
But, whatever the quality, there will always be students who love
the food and students who hate it. Some students are just glad
to be able to eat three times a day. For others, dorm food creates
the need to eat out three times a day.
Dorm food is usually mass-produced, has been sitting under a heat
lamp for an hour, the same thing you ate last week, and made of
low quality ingredients. 14 meals a week is a fairly standard plan.
If you do the math, you end up paying about $8 to $10 per meal.
So you are basically paying for restaurant quality food but getting
fast-food.
Here are some tips from students on how to make the best of your
school's dining halls:
1. Use your meals, each meal you don't use is $8-$10 down the drain. At
the same time, don't starve yourself, go out to eat if you have
to.
2. Take advantage of whatever variety is provided so you don't
get sick of certain things. Do this by adding a piece of fruit
and a salad to your tray.
3. There are many different dining halls on campus. Often times,
they serve different food or specialize in a particular type of
food (i.e. Italian or stir-fry).
4. Be on the look-out for the dreaded "Freshman 15"; with all you
can eat buffets, and ice cream at every meal, it can really sneak
up on you.
**Student Tip** - Most schools give you some money in addition to your meal
plan to spend at designated campus restaurants. You may also be
able to convert meals into these special dinning dollars (the conversion
rate is a rip off though). |
