UCLA
More tips from current students and recent graduates. The insider
information on UCLA:
Best Restaurant – 3 Essentials, all on Gayley Ave between
Le Conte and Weyburn. Great for a cheap meal and drunken munchies.
Open until 3 am.
“Buck Fifty” – officially named “Roll In
Sandwiches”, famous for giving you a 12 inch sandwich, coke,
and fries for $3.00 or so.
Tommy’s – cheap burgers and Mexican Food. $3 gets you
a burrito, chips, and soda.
Gushi – Japanese and some Korean food. Fast stuff like Teriyaki.
About $5 a meal.
Damon & Pythias – located on Broxton – sandwiches,
salads, etc. Just really damned good.
Best Mexican – Tommy’s – cheap burgers and Mexican
Food. $3 gets you a burrito, chips, and soda.
Acapulco – on Kinross.
What to buy – Central
Ticket Office (CTO) just South of the Alumni Center and East of Pauley
Pavilion.
UCLA Season tickets – Football, basketball.
Used books – save lots of money
A PREMIER MEAL PLAN – do not buy the usual plan. Buy premier 14
plan. That’s 14 meals a week, whenever you want. Premier means the meals
accrue, even if you don’t use them. So, if you want you can use 2
meals in a day, once at dinner at once at midnight if you really
want. 14 meals is enough, trust me. You miss breakfast all the
time, and you want
to eat out sometimes.
What to bring – Sun block, swim suit,
and your surfboard (joke).
Money
Best Movie Theater – There are tons of great
theaters. But if you’re
looking to see Indie
or
Foreign films, go to the Nuart located
at 11272 Santa Monica Blvd.
Westwood Village has 5 or so Mann Theaters, the famous ones from the premieres.
I’d say 75% of the major movies all have their premieres here.
