Things to do – Hammer
Museum on the corner of Westwood
and Wilshire. It’s
free on Thursdays. They have musical performances and lectures too.
Student recitals at Schoenberg usually at the end of each
quarter.
Go to the free movie screenings at Melnitz.
They’ve previewed movies like Napoleon Dynamite, Rize, and
Closer. Usually the director or the actors are there for a Q&A
after the movie is shown.
Farmer’s Market every Thursday, on the corner of Weyburn
and Westwood.
UCLA Live, Royce Hall performances. There are usually student
rush tickets available.
UCLA Athletics – Football and basketball mainly, but
also volleyball, water polo, etc.
Intramural sports can be a great way to meet people.
On Campus: Sports & Recreation; Campus movies - $2; Movie Q&As – sessions
with the directors, actors, etc at the film school; Concerts – small,
often student bands play weekly in Westwood Plaza (free). Twice a
year they have a “name” band. They
had Unwritten Law, Black Eyed Peas, Ataris, Strung Out in the past.
Movie premieres
Beaches – Santa Monica is probably the closest. While
you’re
over there you can check out the 3rd St. Promeade and the Santa Monica
Pier.
Good food in the Village
Geffen Playhouse
This school is located in Los Angeles – go check out
the sites: Hollywood – sites, clubs, theaters, bars.
Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm, Magic Mountain, Universal Studios
Museums: LACMA, MOCA, Petersen Auto, etc.
Local teams – Lakers (basketball), Dodgers (baseball), Angels
(baseball), Clippers (basketball), Kings (hockey)
Go see concerts on Sunset Blvd at the House of Blues, Roxy,
Key Club, etc.
