UCLA
UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) is a great school,
with nationally ranked academics, a fun, active atmosphere, and
a beautiful campus. There is plenty to do in the surrounding LA
area but also many great events right on campus. 35,000+. Many
are commuters. Located in posh Westwood, in the westside of Los
Angeles.
Offers undergraduate and post-graduate degrees. Professors are
required researchers. Not a party school by any means. Greek system
is there but not a “frat” school.
Here is what recent graduates and current students have to say
about UCLA, including great tips and advice:
Things to know - UCLAProfessors.com – This
is the site that provides professor rankings on numerous criteria.
Use this site to pick
your classes.
Party night is Thursday. After Thursday, everybody goes
home and the weekends are largely dead.
Bars are very strict on IDs. I suggest getting into the
Greek system, that way you’ll have something to do besides
apartment parties at night.
Movie premieres happen all the time in Westwood Village.
If you are into star-gazing, check them out. UCLA Recreation is
more than the Wooden Center – they
offer outside activities like hiking, surfing, sailing, etc offsite.
Best Pizza – BJ's Pizza,
on Broxton. Italian Express, on Lindbrook. LaMonica's NY
on Gayley. CPK, on Weyburn. Enzo's – Weyburn. THEY
ALL DELIVER EXCEPT CPK.
Best Sushi – Tomodachi – Weyburn.
Good sake bombing too.
Tengu – very “LA” sushi, rather pricey for
the “going
out” crowd. Lindbrook Ave.
Sushi Isshin – Lindbrook
